For this activity, you will research one aspect of kitchen safety and analyze various infographics for codes and conventions. Then, you will combine your knowledge of safety and understanding of effective infographic format to create an appealing and easily understandable infographic that teaches the reader how to work in the kitchen safely. Finally, you will create an APA-formatted References list to cite all your sources.

You may choose from the following topics, or create one of your own:

  • Fire safety
  • How to reduce the spread of pathogens
  • Proper storage of chemicals
  • How to prevent electrocutions
  • How to prevent slips and falls

 

Step 1: Research the Content

 

Find three different online sources that provide tips and information about your chosen topic. They can be a Web site, video, infographic, podcast, or any other medium. Fill out the chart below based on your research.

 

Step 2: Analyze the Format

 

Choose three different infographics on a completely separate topic and analyze their format. How do they use things like colours, shapes, images, white space, text, and font to effectively express ideas? How is it organized, where are things placed, how does it use its shape to express ideas? Which techniques do you think work best, and which ones will you use for your own creation? Which of the three infographics do you think worked best at communicating information, and why? Explain in point form the effective techniques of each infographic below, and then explain which was the most engaging, and why
