Castration and medications on civilly committed person to reduce sex drive
The civilly committed person can be released when the court finds the individual safe to return to the community. Because of the high bar they must reach, some men will voluntarily undergo chemical castration, the injection of medications such as Depo-Provera. In other parts of the world, castration is regularly conducted on men who have committed sex crimes. Castration and medications do reduce sex drive, but side effects occur (e.g., the development of female traits like breasts).
