The role of interdisciplinary communication

On this National Geographic page, I read “humans share over 99 percent of their genetic material with one another, and variation occurs more between individuals than ethnic groups. Nevertheless, the legacies of racial and ethnic constructs can be spotted in everything from housing to health.” What are your thoughts on categorizing race with regard to health?

For this assignment, your group will be looking at the role of interdisciplinary communication regarding professionalism in the workplace. Consider all the different types of communication that take place within a healthcare environment and what kinds of barriers could potentially hinder communication

Sequelae of surgical procedures

Please explain what is iatrogenic injuries or sequelae of surgical procedures and discuss and explain why they could or did occur.  Also, find the surgical procedures for an understanding of the procedure, ( please describe the surgical procedure step by step to have a better experience of how the surgery is performed.

Although eliminating the practice of collecting and reporting data by race is one option for a response to increasing diversity, another option would be to increase the number of categories used in the collection and reporting of data. Discuss the pros and cons of increasing the number of categories.

The role physical activity and exercise

You are employed as an engineer and your company designs a product that involves transmitting large amounts of data over the internet. Due to bandwidth limitations, a compression algorithm needs to be involved. Discuss how you would decide whether to use a lossless or lossy approach to compression, depending on the application. Mention the advantages and disadvantages of both.

In what ways has exercise physiology contributed to a broader understanding of the role physical activity and exercise play in the promotion of physical fitness and health, as well as the understanding of successful sport and athletic performance?

The production of thyroid hormone

Hypothyroidism, a disease characterized by a decrease in the production of thyroid hormone, is hypothesized to increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).  In a follow-up study of 1,000 men aged 55 years and older, the investigators are interested in the potential impact of subclinical hypothyroidism on the incidence of myocardial infarction. The overall cumulative incidence of CVD in this cohort was 1.8%. The cumulative incidence of CVD was 12.8% among the 47 men with subclinical hypothyroidism and 1.3% among men without hypothyroidism. The overall prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism in the cohort was 4.7%.

Q: Assuming causality, what proportion of CVD in men aged 55 and above with subclinical hypothyroidism can be prevented by treating all men with subclinical hypothyroidism with thyroid hormone replacement therapy? Calculate the etiologic fraction among the exposed.

The Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Care Act allowed for the expansion of the Medicaid program. As the Act passed through the legal system, many states have decided not to expand their respective programs, and many changes associated with Medicaid have occurred over the years. Review some of the articles provided in the supplemental reading materials and consider visiting some of the websites to identify similar information about Medicaid Reform issues such as the Kaiser Family Foundation and CMS.

Provide a discussion on the following questions: How did the Medicaid expansion impact states?  How are the states’ populations impacted? How does the current Medicaid program impact different states? Offer reasoning behind either position and evidence to support it. You can also elect to address specific states, or several states, and/or include information from a federal level in your discussion

Defining the public policy problem of interest

Defining the public policy problem of interest is a key opening stage in policy analysis. In cautioning analysts about some of the possible pitfalls in problem definition, Bardach and Patashnik (2016) call attention to the risks of including the policy solution in the initial formulation of the issue at stake.

1) Why do you think this caution could be useful for public health policy analysts?

E.g., If someone frames the issue of low fruit and vegetable consumption as an issue of lack of access to full-service grocery stores, the problem definition implicitly points to more grocery stores as the preferred policy option, and this happens even before the analysts start considering and evaluating the possible alternatives.

2) What other example/s can you think of?

Functions of managerial accounting

Managerial accounting may be performed by an individual or a collective group of employees within an organization. The scope of managerial accounting can vary depending on the size of the healthcare organization, and the extent of healthcare services offered.

Explain how you might use managerial accounting in either your current job, r a future role in health care. State if you are/will be responsible for most accounting functions, or only a few. Specifically, what functions of managerial accounting do you find interesting or challenging? Why?

Discuss how social media has impacted health

Participation in social media by the general public has increased sharply over the past nine years.  In the U.S., the proportion of adults using social media has increased from 8% to 72% since 2005. The use of social media is prevalent across all ages and professions and is pervasive around the world.  In 2012, Facebook users exceeded one billion people worldwide, a number that represents one-seventh of the world’s population.  In addition, each day 100 million active Twitter users send more than 65 million tweets, and two billion videos are viewed on YouTube.

Social media provide health care practitioners (HCPs) with tools to share information, debate health care policy, and practice issues, promote health behaviors, engage with the public, and educate and interact with patients, caregivers, students, and colleagues. HCPs can use social media to potentially improve health outcomes, develop a professional network, increase personal awareness of news and discoveries, motivate patients, and provide health information to the community.

Discuss how social media has impacted health.  Do you have any health-related applications (e.g. fitness or nutrition apps) on your mobile device?   Have you ever sought medical advice online, and did you find the information to be accurate?  Be honest – I know everyone has Googled their health symptoms at least once.

The Health Information Technology

The federal government as part of its initiative to reduce the cost of healthcare and improve quality passed legislation called the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). A provision in ARRA included the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) which created incentives for hospitals and physicians to adopt clinical health information technology. HITECH resulted in the creation of “meaningful use” criteria for EHRs. All of the following are “meaningful use” use criteria except for one the following:

a. Improve quality, safety, and efficiency of Problematic employees

b. Provide patients access to their EHR through “smartphone” technology

c. Improve care coordination

d. Improve population and public health

Bodybuilding training principles

Create a training script demonstrating your understanding of bodybuilding training principles for one of the phases of a training program (Foundational Training phase, Hypertrophy training phase, or Cutting training phase). The training script should be completed within the following guidelines:

State your name, school, or association that you work for.

State the training phase that you are designing the program for.

Outline the layout of the training program for one training day. (NOTE: Training program should be specific to one of the aforementioned phases of training.) Provide an explanation describing how your recommendations are specific to the phase of training that you have chosen to design the program for.

Provide thorough descriptions of the coaching cues you would use for each exercise that you recommend. For instance, if you recommend that the athlete should perform a front squat, state the coaching cues you will use to get the athlete to perform the movement properly. These coaching cues should be written in a narrative format. The reviewer should be able to read your script and get a mental image of what is trying to be relayed.

The training script should be for one training day.

. Include both a warm-up and cool-down routine with coaching cue descriptions for each drill.
