There are several topics that you will need to address in your initial post. Please review these sections in Chapter 20 Leading and managing in nursing and include one paragraph on each topic that is listed here.

Health Care financing – discuss the differences in how health care is financed (such as government-funded programs, private insurance, and out-of-pocket expenses).

Reimbursement – explain the differences between cost-based reimbursement, a prospective payment system, and the DRG classification system.

Comment on why nursing services are “bundled” into the room rate and not charged separately.

Lastly, explain the types of budgets and why nurses (especially nurse managers!) need to be familiar with this area of health care.
