Challenge of Cultural Relativism

On page three of James Rachel’s the Challenge of Cultural Relativism, he lists six claims made by cultural relativists to support the concept of cultural relativism. Choose the claim you think is the strongest and explain why you think it is the strongest claim AND then choose the one you think is the weakest claim. So, to be extra clear, you will be unpacking two different claims in this discussion board. You cannot choose #1 for either because it is simply a fact.

Aspects of the society of the Greek Gods and Goddesses

Here is a brief description of some aspects of the society of the Greek Gods and Goddesses. Perhaps you recall some Greek myths as well to help you remember how the Greek gods interacted with each other: Artemis was the huntress possessing her quiver and bow. She was goddess of the moon and chastity. She was a staunch defender of her virginity and those who threatened it met with a fatal end. This happened to Actaeon, who seeing her bathing was transformed by Artemis into a stag and the hounds were loosed on him whereupon he was torn to pieces. Orion the hunter, who made the mistake of trying to remove her robe, was killed on the spot. She was equally committed as well to defending her worshippers and priestesses from assault and rape. Artemis was merciless in defending their innocence. Zeus was the supreme god of the pantheon, the sky thunder god whose name means “bright.” Often seen wearing a crown of oak leaves and bearing a giant shield. The youngest son of Cronus and Rhea, he escaped the threat of being eaten by his father like his siblings as Cronus when he discovered one of his children would

What are the strengths of the stages model of the policy process? What are its weaknesses? How would you propose we improve on this model?

2) What are the strengths and weaknesses of any systems model of a political or social process? How might you overcome the weaknesses you have identified? 

3) The trends shown in this chapter are national trends in the United States. How does where you live compare with the national trends outlined here? For example, is your state, or county, or metropolitan area experiencing a higher or lower rate of unemployment? What is economic growth (defined as growth in the state domestic product) compared with the national trend? Various economic development and budget offices should have these data.

4) Please comment on the concept whether inputs or outputs have a greater role within the policy framework. How does this relate to the D.A.R.E. Was a Bigger Failure Than Most People Realized case?

Social justice and social transformation

Storytelling is an important part of advocacy and leadership work because it answers the “why” questions: why we care, why the work we do matters, and why we are organizing for change. The purpose of this assignment is for learners to develop their story following the Public Narrative Framework (ICL, 2017): Story of Self, Us and Now. Learning to craft and re-craft your story based on peer coaching and feedback is an important leadership practice.

Learning Outcome Assessed:

CLO 1: Demonstrate the qualities of an early childhood professional to foster social justice and social transformation through advocacy in diverse early childhood communities.

Assignment Steps:

  1. An advocate’s Public Narrative Story must revolve around a specific issue – for this assignment, construct your ECE story (if you feel strongly that you want to focus on an issue other than ECE, speak to your professor). Draft your Public Narrative Story using the Institute for Change Leaders (2017), Building Skills for Change Teaching Guide, Chapter 2 (pp. 21-31) as a reference and the attached worksheets (adapted from ICL, 2017).
  2. Record a video of yourself sharing your story (telling your story is different from just reading it out loud!). An effective Public Narrative Story should be no longer than 5 minutes and it should have distinct Self, Us and Now components.Storytelling is an important part of advocacy and leadership work because it answers the “why” questions: why we care, why the work we do matters, and why we are organizing for change. Hume’s draining the swamp game

Explain how the insights from Hume’s draining the swamp game could be used to understand the following situations: (1) two politicians competing for the same office must decide whether or not to use negative campaigning; (2) two opposing interest groups consider whether or not to contribute to a senator’s reelection campaign; and (3) the largest industrialized powers decide the extent to which they should reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

2. This chapter proposes replication as a solution to cooperative dilemmas. Explain the intuition behind this proposal and point out some features of a cooperation game (e.g., specific payoffs, number of iterations, and value of present versus future payoffs) that lead, in your view, to cooperation. Is cooperation always achieved in contexts of iteration in theory, in practice?

3.  Hume’s swamp-draining game involved a cooperation problem, whereas the following game is generally considered to involve a coordination problem. The approach is as follows: two friends are unable to agree on whether they should go to the movies or play basketball, although neither wants to be alone, even if they do so. movies or play basketball, although neither wants to be alone, even if they do their favorite activity:

Does it suit any player to play “basketball” or “movies” no matter what his friend chooses, as in the swamp-draining game? What are the alternatives in which neither player has any incentive to alter his strategy (assuming the other player’s strategy remains fixed)? Explain why this game illustrates a coordination problem.

General analysis of the El Salvador counterinsurgency

Can you provide a general analysis of the El Salvador counterinsurgency (COIN) effort and assess how well the U.S. forces, U.S. country team, ESAF, and GOES did in relation to the COIN principles: Legitimacy, unity of effort, the primacy of political objectives, understanding the environment/culture, good intelligence, isolating the insurgents from society and security/the rule of law?

Cognitive development theory

Describe the hardships of any 1 (one) of the following groups: American Indians, African Americans, Mexican Americans, and European immigrants.  How did they cope in the past vs. how did they cope now?  How did their struggles shape their group identity over time?  Give examples.  Discuss in detail the strengths of the 2 family groups described in the text. Then, select 1 (one) family group and thoroughly describe the gender roles.  Select 1 (one) of the following 3 theories (social learning theory, cognitive development theory, and feminist approaches) and explain how the theory you selected would explain why men are less likely than women to engage in childcare and domestic chores?  Be as specific as possible, and be sure to support your answer with sources you cite in the body of your answer and include in a reference list.

What are gender roles?

What are gender roles?  What is the difference between sex and gender?  What is the difference between gender, gender identity and gender roles? What are gender stereotypes? Summarize the nature vs. nurture debate and give an example?  Which do you think is the most powerful? Nature or biology or nurture or socialization?  What is socialization and what are the agents of socialization? What agent of socialization do you think is the most powerful on young adults?  Give at least one example of gender socialization. Be as specific as possible, and be sure to support your answer with sources you cite in the body of your answer and include in a reference list

Reflect in your response on your own life and/or career aspirations and how a better understanding of society will assist you in your personal and professional life:

This is a short essay, I tried to write but I do not know how to relate to my own life,  my career aspiration is to be a cardiovascular sonographer and I am house-wife and have four kids.
