Factors that contribute to differences in influence

Discuss the fundamental explanatory factors that contribute to differences in influence. Can influence be used to acquire more influence?  Discuss the possibilities and limits of valuing influence. the government becomes legitimate in the political system?  Are there any cycles of political ideology to form one political system?  Is it possible that a revolutionary ideology becomes the reigning ideology of the next political period?  Is influence measurable? Does the degree of modernity influence the distribution of political resources and skills? Can history influence the option of other countries in political consideration?  Are different stages of development tend to generate differences in simulating cleavage and coalition?

The law described in the C&C book

Using the rubric as a guide, answer one of the following on the appropriate forum of the discussion board in a thread that you create:

How do one or more of the three approaches to understanding the law described in the C&C book (natural, positive, and sociological) help us understand the Lopez decision?

How does the law, as described in Lopez, involve benefits, government programs, societal values, the prohibition of activities, and/or predictability? (Go beyond my words above, but you can reference them briefly.)

Analyze an experience you have had in real life (or an experience that someone you know has had in real life) from the three natural, positive, and/or sociological perspectives of the law.

The reading of this module covers democratic political regimes and the core components of democracy. The module explains the importance of key principles of democracy such as accountability, participation, and contestation. You also learn about the role of frequent and fair elections and civil liberties in driving the quality of democracy. The Module 3A Discussion Forum gives you an opportunity to answer the following question: What are civil liberties and why are they important for democracy? The rational-activist model

The authors propose five mechanisms by which public opinion can influence government decisions, which are the rational-activist model, the political parties model, the interest groups model, the delegate model, and the sharing model. Do you think this is complete, or would you add additional mechanisms? Which of these do you think is most crucial for democratic government?

The pros and cons of lobbyists as a tool for special interest groups

For the initial post, respond to one of the following options, and label the beginning of your post indicating either Option 1 or Option 2:

  • Option 1: What are the pros and cons of lobbyists as a tool for special interest groups? Should former members of Congress be allowed to become lobbyists? Explain your answer.
  • Option 2: Social movements can at times use disruptive behaviors. What are some of the possible benefits of disruptive behaviors in social movements? What are the drawbacks or possible negative consequences? What does the First Amendment state concerning citizens’ right to use disruptive methods? Refer to examples from history as you frame your analysis. Explain your answer.

Be sure to make connections between your ideas and conclusions and the research, concepts, terms, and theory we are discussing this week.

The social and political domination

Both of these media item options show how, in many ways, emancipation proved to be a false promise for freed slaves. Discuss the methods developed during the reconstruction era to continue the social and political domination of Black Americans in Southern states (for example “convict leasing” and “peonage” systems from the film, or “literacy tests” and “poll taxes” from the podcast). [Be specific when referring to the media source and reference time stamps where possible. You should also feel free to comment on anything specific that you particularly liked or disliked about the assigned item(s). If you can post any links to additional information related to this topic that would be helpful for us to know and/or include in the discussion,

What are the three periods of the global justice movement

What are the three periods of the global justice movement as described by Geoffrey Pleyers? What does the movement identify as the primary source of global injustice? What criticisms does the movement level against the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund? What “alternative policies and programs” does the movement support, and what are the prospects of the movement achieving major social change and poverty reduction?

What was the role of indentured servitude and slavery

What was the role of indentured servitude and slavery in the early settler experiences? How did this vary culturally across different colonies? What was the role of indentured servitude and slavery in shaping the political economy internally and externally subsequent economic trajectory of different colonies prior to Independence?

What role did indentured servitude and slavery play and factor into positions in how different ethnonational groups approached the debate over the Constitution? What were the key compromises with regard to slavery in the Constitution? How did the role of slavery evolve in the 1800s? How did the political economy vary across different states? What was the position of different states regarding slavery in the 1850s? What were the different forms of political organization and governance arrangements that supported slavery in settler colonies?

How were these factored into and reflected in the debate after the Civil War and the constitutional debate around key powers to the national/federal government? How is this related to the Fourteenth Amendment? Reflection and Synthesis! What new questions are emerging for you as you consider the compromises that were struck at the Constitution convention during the independence period, and what issues were unresolved? What questions are arising for you after reading and reflecting on the assignment that relates to your own understanding of the role of indentured servitude and slavery in the founding and evolution of the United States and our Constitution?

Models and the evolution of Federalism

Describe how and why Federalism is used in the United States. Begin with the various models and the evolution of Federalism in the US [for example dual or cooperative Federalism] and compare/contrast to Federalism today. Finally, what do you think about the Federal Government allowing certain states to legalize recreational marijuana, or should it ‘crackdown’ on these states? I do not want to know your personal opinion as to whether marijuana should/should not be legalized. I want you to discuss marijuana legalization as it relates to Federalism only. Again, cite your sources.
