What are conflict theories of crime?

What are conflict theories of crime? How did they evolve from Karl Marx? What aspects of conflict theory specifically allow those who are wealthy to maintain their wealth? What aspects of conflict theory specifically target those who are not wealthy and  contribute to the phrase “the poor get prison”?

The Hawthorne Effect

Nonreactive research methods are a way of collecting data in such a way that the person/persons being studied do not know they are being studied. There are three major types of nonreactive methods ( field research, secondary analysis, and content analysis). Using these research methods, subjects can be studied through the following: homicide rates, physical trace analysis, artifacts statistics from existing criminology, use of existing records, and simple and disguised observation (Kraska & Neuman, 2011).

The logic and thinking are that collecting existing information or covertly observing an event avoids the problem of data being corrupted by reactive research effects. This thinking is similar to The Hawthorne Effect that was discussed in chapter 7. The Hawthorne Effect describes how a research participant can change their behavior because of their role as a research participant. If an unnatural change in behavior occurs, researchers are no longer measuring a natural reaction to what is being studied. Researchers therefore cannot contend that it was the study components alone that influenced the behavior of the study participants.

Understanding of Restorative Justice

After watching the video clips and reading the lecture and text, discuss your thoughts and understanding of Restorative Justice. What was your perception of Restorative Justice before this week? What did you learn this week that was new to you? Be sure to discuss concepts from the assigned reading. How do you think these principles might use in your field of study?

Identify and briefly describe the agents of socialization

Identify and briefly describe the agents of socialization. Please include information like the general age of a person in which the agent plays a specific role, the importance of the agent in socialization, how long these agents remain relevant, and when these agents are most relevant.

The persistence of racial wealth inequality

Describe one factor that has contributed to the persistence of racial wealth inequality in the U.S. (that is, focus on WEALTH gaps across RACIAL/ETHNIC categories). For example, how have institutionalized housing policies contributed to racial wealth disparities? Explain and support your claims using course materials, such as content from the “Money and the Racialized Social World” week. A perfect initial post would summarize the issue, refer to concepts and data from the text, and include some of your own observations that are not included in the course materials. It should be at least 250 long; longer for more complex prompts.

Exploring assistive technology

Exploring assistive technology, including augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Take a look at this blog post about AT and devices: https://assistivetechnologyblog.com/2021/09/jacquard-google.htmlLinks to an external site.

  1. How do you think devices like Jacquard can help students in our schools?
  2. What are some barriers students may face when using such devices?
  3. What are your thoughts on the emerging devices being used in our communities?
  4. Pose a question for your peers.

Describe the factors of socialization

Identify one ideology that you consider a core value to your identity, then describe the factors of socialization in your life that shaped it. 2. Briefly recount a decision or action that directly resulted from that ideology. 3. Critique that action-was it justified, rational and fair, or would you do things differently now that you know how your beliefs have been influenced by forces outside of yourself?

How did the Enlightenment contribute to the French Revolution?

How did the Enlightenment contribute to the French Revolution? Provide specific examples. John Locke said that no king should have absolute power. He believed in a constitutional monarchy, which basically means that he thought that any ruler should have rules to follow. He also believed in a social contract in which people give a little of their freedom to their ruler, but they cannot take away their natural rights, the rights that they are born with, and they have the right to get rid of higher if he/she is a bad ruler. The French liked these ideas.

II. Principles, Values, and Philosophies

Underlying principles and philosophies you may include a background of the        human right you chose or even how it is suppressed by the use/misuse of S&T
