Explain using your own words what deindividuation is.  Describe a situation where it is likely to occur.

Deindividuation is a state when you become so immersed in the norms of the group that you lose your sense of identity and personal responsibility.

An individual relinquishes individual responsibility for actions and sees behavior as a consequence of group norms and expectations.

Deindividuation also occurs when people are wrapped up in a hobby or activity. For example, when people are in a mosh pit at a concert, they’re punching the air and shaking their heads frantically – behaviors they wouldn’t engage in if they weren’t a part of a crowd.

Michael has been diagnosed with prediabetes. His doctor informed him that he needs to adopt a healthier lifestyle, and one of the more immediate changes needed is losing weight.

Preventing Type 2 Diabetes

If you have prediabetes, losing a small amount of weight if you’re overweight and getting regular physical activity can lower your risk for developing type 2 diabetes. A small amount of weight loss means around 5% to 7% of your body weight, just 10 to 14 pounds for a 200-pound person.

Michael is worried as his previous attempts to lose weight by dieting have met with little success.

He knows that he should stick to healthier dietary options such as consuming more fruits and vegetables, but often loses out to temptation by binging on junk food instead.

Why is it so difficult to stick to our diet? Why would Michael choose the immediate pay-off over the long-term outcome?

In your answer and using the principles of instrumental conditioning, also present viable options to Michael to curb his junk food consumption.

What effect have follow-up studies had on her findings? one page with references

In 1948, psychologist Maria Nagy presented a pioneering study that found a relationship between age and a child’s comprehension of death. The study showed three distinct stages
“Auntie Death,” as Nagy was called, learned through interviews and pictures drawn by the children that between the ages of three and five years (Stage 1), children believed that death involved a continuation of life, but at a reduced level of activity and experiences.

Describe the three believed causes for learning disabilities in children.

Learning disorders are believed to occur because of an abnormality in the nervous system, either in the structure of the brain or in the functioning of brain chemicals.

The difference in the nervous system causes the child with a learning disorder to receive, process, or communicate information in a different way.

These can include poor nutrition or exposure to lead in water or in paint. Young children who do not receive the support they need for their intellectual development may show signs of learning disabilities once they start school. Sometimes a person may develop a learning disability later in life due to injury.

Describe why RTI is used with children who have been diagnosed with a learning disorder. Thoroughly identify and describe the three tiers of intervention used under RTI.

For this reason, school-specific terms for these levels of support were developed: Tier 1 = Universal or core instruction. Tier 2 = Targeted or strategic instruction/intervention. Tier 3 = Intensive instruction/intervention.
