The “Type A” behavioral pattern is one of the strongest factors associated with coronary heart disease. If you are an ambitious, driven, angry person, what steps can you take to reduce your risk of heart attack?

What behavioral component of Type A behavior is most predictive of coronary heart disease?
In the late 1950s, the Type A behavior pattern was described as a contributing factor in the development of coronary heart disease (CHD). Comprised of impatience, achievement striving, competitiveness, and hostility, this pattern does predict the development of CHD.
Type B personalities can be generally summarised as; easy going, relaxed and highly-flexible. Generally taking a much more carefree approach and wider philosophical view of themselves, work/life balance and other traits which make them less stressed and more widely appreciated when compared to Type A personalities.

I need to make a Japanese version of this cultural iceberg. I know how to draw the iceberg, but not really sure about the words I was born in Japan and came here more than 15 years ago and fluent in English.

I do karate and teach it for 10 years in here as well. Could you help me with any other vocabulary I could put in this iceberg?

And finally, which vocabulary will be the visible and invisible side of the iceberg?

Which has a more powerful effect on behavior, personality or situation? Questions like these drive social psychologists to find out what’s happening when ordinary people take, for better or worse, extraordinary action.

When details of the Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal became publicized in 2004, many were struck by parallels to the Stanford Prison Study. Among them was Dr. Zimbardo, the Stanford psychologist who authored the study 30 years earlier.

These events brought renewed attention to the line between good and evil, showing once again that it’s easier to cross than one might expect. While much of Zimbardo’s early work focused on understanding the psychology of evil, he recently shifted his focus to the nature of heroism.

The following article discusses this work and the various factors that influence heroic action. This discussion will be a regular and video discussion. You will use your textbook, as well as the following videos:

4. Psychological Disorders

Scenario: Jodie is a 31-year old woman who comes to you for treatment. She states that the reason she is there is to get her anger under control, and that in her last several relationships with men, she has been guilty of hitting her boyfriends and/or throwing things at them.

She states that she doesn’t know why she does this because she ‘really loved all of them.’ During the course of your conversation, you discover that she has been married and divorced three times, and in the last year, has had 4 ‘serious’ relationships.

Also, she tells you that she has had two past suicide attempts (pill overdoses) in response to ‘bad breakups’ with various boyfriends and husbands. Jodie is also both a compulsive shopper and compulsive eater.

She states that she mostly engages in these kinds of behavior when her relationships are ‘getting bad.’

She tells you that when she is in a relationship, it’s very intense and that her whole world looks brighter, yet when the relationship begins to crumble, she goes through periods of intense depression and suicidal thoughts.

Question 4a: Based on your understanding of the term “abnormal behavior”, discuss whether you agree or disagree if Jodie’s behavior could be defined as such and why.

Question 4b: Using the DSM-V, summarize the psychological disorder that Jodie seems to present symptoms of.

Question 4c: Discuss two (2) examples of how the biopsychosocial approach would be used to develop an appropriate treatment plan for Jodie.
