Define the adaptation-level phenomenon

Define the adaptation-level phenomenon and provide at least one example of it. Explain how upward social comparison causes dissatisfaction and how downward social comparison facilitates contentment. In your response, provide one example that demonstrates the relationship between upward social comparison and dissatisfaction, as well as one example that demonstrates the relationship between downward social comparison and contentment.

How does each of these impact our ability to address materialism which is a major contributor to climate change?  Do you have any insight into how we can address this using other social psychology influence principles?

The psychotherapeutic modalities

Mary Jones brought her 49-year-old mother, Mrs. Sandra Davis, to the community mental health center. Mrs. Jones states that she is concerned about her mother. Mrs. Jones describes her mother as becoming more and more withdrawn. Her mother refuses to leave home, stays in her bedroom with the lights off, has no appetite, does not bathe nor comb her hair, and is always crying.

Mrs. Davis is widowed. Her husband died one year ago. She has three children who live in their own homes/apartments. The youngest child just recently moved to an apartment because she wanted more privacy.

From your observation, you notice that Mrs. Davis’ face is sad. Her forehead is pinched and tight, and her eyes are downcast. She complains of insomnia, lack of energy, poor appetite, and pressure in her chest. She frequently sighs as she talks. Mrs. Davis says that she is worthless, that everything will always turn out bad no matter what she does, and that she has nothing to live for. She says that she would never commit suicide because people don’t go to heaven if they commit suicide.

1. Provide a provisional DSM 5/ICD 10 diagnosis

2. Examine and discuss the psychotherapeutic modalities you would choose to use to treat this client. Choose between Psychoanalytic, adlerian, existential, person-centered, gestalt, behavior, cognitive behavior, choice/reality, feminist, and postmodern therapy. You may combine therapies (integrative approach), but you must justify the combination. Be sure to include a list of the specific techniques (therapeutic processes and content), not just the theory you would use for this client. Be specific in how you would treat each client.

3. Explain your rationale.

Objective quality of behavior

Erikson argues that deviance is NOT an objective quality of behavior; rather, social audiences label deviance based on directly or indirectly witnessing such behavior. In short, deviance is less about statistical evidence and more about the quality of social reaction.  Using drunk driving as an example, how does the audience’s reaction establish boundaries between recreational drinking and drunk driving, especially the legal response to the latter?  In your answer pay particular attention to the age of offenders as an important boundary.

Earlier stages of development

How did Eric Erikson define an ‘Identity Crisis’ and how do these crises impact us as we age? What did he believe would happen if a child was unable to successfully complete earlier stages of development?

Need 200-300 words and  2 sources of references

All college writing assumes you are familiar with short essay writing. However, a refresher never hurts! There are some helpful websites you can consult as you complete short answer and short essay questions. Below is an example of 5 common questions I found online.

Five Common Question Types

There are overlaps and crossovers, of course, but most short answer and essay questions belong primarily in one of these five categories.

  1. Identify questions: Provide a detailed description of an event, process, or idea. These questions often include words such as:  Identify, Enumerate, Define, Describe, List, or Summarize
  2. Explain questions: Analyze why, how, or in what order a set of events or processes occur. These questions often include words such as:  Explain, Account for, Analyze, Discuss, Trace, or Outline
  3. Compare questions: Analyze the similarities and differences; answer with an investigation of a relationship. These questions often include words such as:  Compare, Contrast, Distinguish, Relate
  4. Argue questions: Answer with a defense of a position that considers potential detractors. These questions often include words such as: Argue, Agree, Disagree, Debate, Defend, Justify, Prove
  5. Assess questions: Answer with an evaluation. These questions often include words such as: Assess, Criticize, Evaluate, Interpret, Propose, Review

Neurological intensive care unit

A patient was admitted to the neurological intensive care unit after suffering from a brain bleed. Doctors ordered a PET scan and prescribed ASAP a medication for anxiety because the patient was claustrophobic. The nurse could not find the anxiety medication in the automatic drug dispensing cabinet, so she did an override and accidentally grabbed a paralyzing drug instead. The moment the nurse realized she had given the wrong medication, she rushed to the doctors working to revive the patient, but she feels ashamed and hesitant if tell the truth. A few seconds later she decides to go forward. The doctors could revive the patient by maintaining her/him with intubation and mechanical respiration.”

Using the evidence you have learned from the leadership chapters (Chapters 19, 20, 21), how would you approach this scenario? What strategies would you use as a leader to encourage a collaborative and patient-centered working environment for your staff and patients?

Effectiveness of observational behavior

1. Another behavior that professionals aim to improve is the nutritional habits of young children. Many studies have evaluated the effectiveness of observational behavior on young children in regard to nutrition habits, such as fruit and vegetable consumption and nutritional literacy. One study published in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior evaluated the effectiveness of screen-based peer modeling on children’s vegetable consumption. This study enrolled 42 children, aged 3-5 years old, who were asked to watch either a video of a peer eating a vegetable, a video that was non-food related, or no video at all. Researchers then evaluated the child’s vegetable consumption rate of all of the groups. It was found that children who watched the video with vegetables were more likely to eat more grams of vegetables that same day (Stainano et al., 2016). This study shows how public health professionals can use peer observational learning to help promote healthy eating habits in young children.

Do you agree or not and why?

2.As I previously mentioned, media can play a large role in observational learning, negative and positive! A TikTok trend led millions of people to Chole Ting’s fitness channel on Youtube. During quarantine, gyms were closed and people were looking for at-home workouts when Chole Ting started trending on the popular app. People were going crazy about it and encouraging others to try it for themselves. Staying active, especially when gyms are closed, has many benefits and this trend helped public health professionals promote a healthy lifestyle!

Do you agree or not and why?

Promoting human rights and social and economic justice

Describe how you perceive our Program Mission Statement to relate to your career goals.

The mission of the Northern Arizona University Social Work Program, grounded in the history, purpose, and values of the profession, is to educate competent generalist social workers for practice with diverse populations and multi-level social systems in local, regional, and global contexts.

Cognitive development theory

Describe the hardships of any 1 (one) of the following groups: American Indians, African Americans, Mexican Americans, and European immigrants.  How did they cope in the past vs. how did they cope now?  How did their struggles shape their group identity over time?  Give examples.  Discuss in detail the strengths of the 2 family groups described in the text. Then, select 1 (one) family group and thoroughly describe the gender roles.  Select 1 (one) of the following 3 theories (social learning theory, cognitive development theory, and feminist approaches) and explain how the theory you selected would explain why men are less likely than women to engage in childcare and domestic chores.  Be as specific as possible, and be sure to support your answer with sources you cite in the body of your answer and include in a reference list.

The abilities and limitations of human beings

Write a one-page (double-spaced) paper discussing and describing “What are human beings about?” or “What does it mean to be a human being?” How are the concepts of Beneficence, Justice, and Respect for Personal Autonomy derived from the nature of human beings? In other words, what are the implications for ethics given the abilities and limitations of human beings? You may use definitions or scenarios in your writing.

Key methodology for studying society

In Chapter 3 of your textbook, various methodological techniques for studying the social world are discussed. A key aspect of sociological research is utilizing the power of observation. Applying what you have learned about sociological research: First, discuss the role of observational research as a key methodology for studying society.

Second, utilizing nonparticipant observation, participant observation, ethnography or ethnography observe and record a detailed account of a social context or virtual social context that you are no stranger to (think local coffee shop, shopping mall, church or night club, a blog, Twitter feed, or Instagram) from a sociological perspective. Be careful to be objective and ethically neutral. Do not include judgments or opinions of behaviors but rather, as best as possible, systematic observations.

Third, discuss how a common-sense view of that social setting may look different from a sociological one. Does looking through the lens of sociological research methodology transform how that social space may be viewed. Substantiate your views.

Fourth and finally, post a response to another classmate’s posting discussing your thoughts in a respectful and thoughtful manner. What stood out to you about their observations and the behaviors occurring?
