Child Protection Social Worker
You are the Child Protection Social Worker assigned to work with this family
Agnes, age 6, Cody, age 8 and Jennifer, age 10, were removed from the custody of their parents because of hazardous, unsanitary conditions in the home environment and nutritional neglect. The judge’s order stated that the children would be returned home if there was sufficient evidence that hazards in the home had been removed and that the children had nutritional meals. When you met the parents, they were angry about the court’s mandate, but they agreed to comply with the judge’s order because they wanted the children to be returned home. Even so, they demanded that you explain to them what the judge meant by hazardous, unsanitary conditions and nutritional neglect. What would be an example of the explicit definition of the two target problems in this case? This is the definition that would be provided to the family to address their question of what the judge meant by hazardous, unsanitary conditions and nutritional neglect. (Hint: Research definitions of nutritional neglect. Children living on microwavable/fast foods would not generally meet the court’s standard for nutritional neglect).
