Billy Budd by Herman Melville

Background:

Born in New York in 1819 and died in 1891, Herman Melville was an American novelist, short story writer, and poet of the American Renaissance period. His best-known works include Typee, a romantic account of his experiences in Polynesian life, and his whaling novel Moby-Dick. He also wrote the work Billy Budd, which was his last work, published posthumously. He never completed it, but and Oxford professor Weaver edited it afterward. His work was almost forgotten during the last 30 years of his life. The main people in the book are Captain Vere, Claggart, and Billy Budd.
