A Mock Digital Forensic Unit
For this assignment, you will develop a single section of a mock Digital Forensic Unit (DFU) policy, titled “Section One: Personnel & Laboratory Requirements”.
A policy is a statement that describes how an investigative unit will conduct its service. In the interest of time, you will not be writing an entire policy, but rather will be focusing on writing a single section. Using the highlights from the provided readings in this unit, as well as from your own additional research, develop “Section One:
Personnel & Laboratory Requirements” in a way that is both practical and contemporary. Instructions: Research existing Digital Forensic Unit policies. Most large police departments and private investigation firms have a DFU. We have learned throughout this unit that official policies are required to set the standards of operation for these complex teams.
Refer to the sample Digital Evidence Policy as well as Digital Forensics Processing and Procedures, both found in this unit’s readings, as well as your own additional research findings, as you write this section. Your written submission should only cover the five specified requirements and needs of a new unit. Your submission should contain five sections:
1. A clear statement of purpose (e.g., This policy will establish the requirements of
the Digital Forensics Unit)
2. An outline of the selection process for an applicant wishing to enter the unit (e.g.,
written test, interview, or appointment from a supervisor)
3. A description of the requirements needed for the physical office space of the
laboratory (e.g., size, location, and furniture)
4. A description of the training required for each investigator to complete
5. A description of the minimum equipment requirements for the laboratory (both hardware and software)
