Role and function of the Electoral Office of Jamaica
Showing the role and function of the Electoral Office of Jamaica in relation to the electoral process in Jamaica. The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) is the independent statutory agency of the Government of Jamaica responsible for organising, conducting and supervising elections, by-elections and referenda. Jamaica effectively has a two-party system: there are two dominant political parties, and it is difficult for other parties to achieve electoral success. The two parties were founded in 1938 and 1943 and first contested the 1944 election.
