History of modern horse

EVOLUTION – HISTORY OF MODERN HORSE continued.

Fossil evidence is rather plentiful in the case of the horse. There are fossils of horses or horse-like animals from
as far back as 55 million years ago. The span of the cheek teeth has been measured in many of these fossilremains.

According to a study published in Nature on 20 October1, modern domestic horses probably originated on the steppes around the Volga and Don rivers, now part of Russia, before spreading across Eurasia, ultimately replacing all pre-existing horse lineages.
