Industrial capitalism

Hilaire Belloc: "It might not be to [a capitalist’s] advantage … to set men to work save for satisfying his own needs. He could not set them all to work…. Industrial capitalism … it pays the controllers to give the great mass of people as small purchasing power as possible…. In other words, ‘Capitalism kills its own home market." What is the problem with capitalism that Belloc identifies in this passage? The worker does not own the means of production, and so is not economically free. Capitalism results in unemployment and insufficient demand based on low wages. Capitalism results in a concentration of ownership of the means of production in the hands of a few. Workers who do not own the means of production are not capable of self-government
