Infectious organisms
Antibodies help to protect unborn children and young babies from the same infectious organisms that their mothers are exposed to. Explain how antibodies are passed from mother to fetus (before birth) and mother to infant (after birth) to provide them with passive immunity. During what period of time are infants most susceptible to infection and why? What does this suggest about the benefits of breastfeeding? (See section 9-14 in the textbook)
