For each of the five questions at the end of the case study: Discuss what leadership principles and theory or another source (s) support your answer. The paper should be a logical coherent integrated discussion that addresses the case questions throughout (without the need to have a sub-heading for each question)

  • Be sure to use citations both from the text and other scholarly citations to support your statements.
  • Page length: 6 total pages (title page, 4 pages of text and a reference page).
  • APA 7th edition format should be used and citations and references are required.
  • There should be no errors in spelling or grammar.
  • Use at least FIVE Scholarly References

You are the newly appointed Nurse Leader for an Outpatient Transplant Center.  In your meetings with staff, patients and some community members, you are hearing that there may be a disproportionate access barrier to the center’s services for marginalized patients.  In your preliminary assessment, there is a lack of data to support or dispute this concern.  The IOM Aim of providing equitable healthcare is “Providing care that does not vary in quality because of personal characteristics such as gender, ethnicity, geographic location, and socioeconomic status (AHRQ). Yet, your scholarly review of the published literature indicates marginalized groups due suffer disproportionately from barriers to healthcare, and research has shown that these disparities are often from numerous factors. One area identified is that of having inequitable access to renal transplantation services (Koons, 2021).

Questions:

  1. What style of leadership would you use to meet with the staff and providers to discuss this ethical concern?
  2. Discuss the ethical theory that you would use as a leader to address this issue and why?
  3. What type of data would be important to assess the current performance? Who would you share this information with and why?
  4. How would you apply the Parity of Healthcare Model as part of your improvement effort?  Specifically what steps and behaviors would you employ to engage internal and external stakeholders in this improvement effort?
  5. What type of type of barriers and/or resistance would you expect to occur and how would you address them (list at least 2)?
