Case Study
Jamal plays beautifully by himself. He is a remarkable self-starter for a 4-year-old. But when he plays with others, there is always a discipline problem. Jamal likes to build and can often be found in the Lego centre.
1. Discuss how this play challenge could affect his sense of belonging regarding interactions and participation, and his emotional well-being if it continues
2. Provide 3 strategies/ideas that might be used to support this child. Take an example from either the book or DVD.
For each one:
• Explain why this strategy/idea is chosen.
• How will the child benefit?
1. What the educator can do
2. How the educator can set up the curriculum
3. How the educator can include other children.
Think of the importance of an educators role here in supporting children
