Management and leadership in health care

Management and leadership in health care require an understanding of the bigger picture of health care. Most students described systems thinking as seeing the big picture, but what is that in health care? Even experienced managers do not know much beyond their daily responsibilities. They do not understand how more significant health policy, governance, finance, and reimbursement issues can impact what they do or how they lead the organization. Our responsibility as healthcare professionals in management is to educate ourselves about the history of health care in our country and the essential issues of today.
