A person may simultaneously belong to multiple identities. For them, this is something that is acceptable.

Immigrants to the United States may have three identities within the framework of the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians: Israeli, Palestinian, and American.

People’s multiple identities may have an impact on how they engage with one another when they are in conflict. The authors of this study contend that the use of collective identities may enhance people’s capacity to comprehend one another and communicate with one another.

They contend that through comprehending the various identities that people hold and the origins of those identities, it is possible to find points of agreement and forge relationships between people.

Such comprehension helps one to engage in conflict in a way that is more advantageous to all parties concerned. The authors believe that the use of collective identities can help to promote a sense of community.

By acknowledging the various identities that people have and how those identities interact with one another, they think it is possible to create a space where people may feel safe and supported.

After that, one may use this sense of belonging to engage in conflict in a way that is more beneficial.

The authors contend that it may be advantageous to engage in conflict in a way that is more constructive if one has a greater understanding of and respect for the various identities that people possess.
