The National Rifle Association (NRA) is one of the biggest interest groups in America
The National Rifle Association (NRA) is one of the biggest interest groups in America. All of the shootings that happen in this country, the NRA is consistent with keeping the right to bear arms. The National Rifle Association is America’s longest-standing civil rights organization.
The organization has over 5 million members and continue to be defenders of history’s patriots and diligent protectors of the Second Amendment. The National Rifle Association has successfully lobbied against stricter gun control measures. An active membership and hefty bank account make the NRA the envy of other special interest groups.
The NRA claims 5 million members, and according to BusinessInsider.com, in 2010 it boasted revenues of almost $228 million and assets of $163 million. The NRA’s membership and financial health give it enormous clout both in influencing the public and politicians.
One of the methods and tactics that most interest group influence policy is by monitoring government activity, they serve as a means of political participation for members, and provide information to the public and to lawmakers. This organization will contact lawmakers to voice approval or disapproval of proposed legislation (inside lobbying) and encourage group members to take action by either donating money to it or contacting lawmakers about the proposed bill (outside lobbying).
Thus, a member of the organization or a citizen concerned about voting rights need not be an expert on the legislative process or the technical or legal details of a proposed bill to be informed about potential threats to voting rights. The NRA monitors attempts by state legislatures to tighten gun control laws. An organization that has been around for over 150 years.
It will be very difficult for this interest group to not continue fighting back with the opposing groups in our nation.
How can i respond to this?
