Phase 1: Developing and Conducting Needs Analysis (15%)
Phase 1 of this assignment requires your group to develop and conduct a needs analysis for your chosen topic.
The purpose of a needs analysis is to determine the following:
- specific gaps or skill deficiencies in employee, group and/or organizational performance
- difference between current and desired results
- possible causes of performance gap and recommended solutions
- if training is identified solution, who within the organization needs training when and why do they need it, what KSAs need imparting and/or what behaviours need changing/altering, and where and how will the new skills be imparted?
Your submission should include the following components, providing endnotes where appropriate, and a bibliography:
- Introduction – briefly describe the performance gap and (3 marks)
scenario leading up to the decision to conduct a needs analysis.
- Identification of type(s) of needs analysis being conducted (5 marks)
(i.e. organizational, task, or person analysis) and why these
type(s) are appropriate, given your training topic.
- Identification of needs analysis methodology(s) you will (10 marks)
utilize (i.e. questionnaire/survey, observation, interviews,
focus group, etc.) and why these method(s) are appropriate,
given your chosen training topic.
- Actual needs analysis tool(s) that you have developed and will (25 marks)
administer in order to move on to Phase 2 of the assignment.
