The Pentagon Papers
What surprises you about the excerpts of the Pentagon Papers you read? A surprise I saw in the Pentagon Papers was the fact that there was not only one, but over two cases on this specific issue. From the way they handled the lawsuit with the Nixon administration to the ways they moved forward afterwards. These papers show how easy it is to hide important events from the public and show the true power David Ellsberg had when he got his hands on these papers. This paper emphasizes the expansion of territories and goes into great detail on the war.
Is Ellsberg a hero or a villain?
I think that there are a lot of different ways to view this question, however in my personal opinion he can be viewed as a hero. He was determined to make the events that were occurring in the government known to the public and by doing this he knew he would gain the respect of many people in the country. He gave the people details on the war and explained things to them that otherwise may have seemed confusing. I think that his eagerness to step in between the government and the media in order to provide for the people was brave and daring of Ellsberg.
Would you agree with my answer regarding both statements, yes or no, please explain?
Both of my responses are based on the following article
