The  problem with volunteer tourism

Those who participate in volunteer tourism do not genuinely have empathy and compassion for those they are seeking to help. It is too focused on global North and not global South countries. Westerners become so involved with the local community that they never want to leave Volunteer tourists do not necessarily have the skill set to provide the kind of help and support that is most useful.
