The process of opening a second restaurant in Winnipeg’s Exchange District

You are the owner of a public relations company in Winnipeg.  Recently, you contracted with a client who is in the process of opening a second restaurant in Winnipeg’s Exchange District that will specialize in vegetarian food and locally-made craft beer.  Your firm is handling the restaurant’s grand opening, with media coverage, scheduled for one month from today.  You will be overseeing the project.

You want to meet with the senior media and senior marketing managers who you have assigned to plan and oversee the restaurant’s grand opening and media event.  Weighing heavily on your mind, is the need to connect quickly with media and other news outlets.  Where will advertising be purchased?  What of social media?  The date and time of the opening must be confirmed and appropriate speakers identified and confirmed.  What of a podium, lighting, other equipment rentals?  What food/snacks/refreshments will be served?  There is much to be done.

Responding to the scenario,

  • Write a 300 – 500-word email to your two senior managers filling them in on the new project and their roles in the planning and execution of the grand opening event.
  • Schedule a meeting time with your two senior consultants as soon as possible and clarify what they should be prepared to discuss.
    • Is it clear what you want the two consultants to prepare for the meeting?
    • Is your email well organized, clear and concise?
    • Is your email free of grammar, punctuation and proofreading errors?
    • Is the tone of your email appropriate?
