Psychological theories for the effects of early childhood experience on later development .

  1. Using the Childhood Survivors of the Holocaust case study, explain and analyse the effects of the orphans’ early experience on their later development with reference to at least two psychological theories -cognitive, psychodynamic and humanist e.g
  • Erik Erikson’s –     his life stage theory (i.e. the five stages up to 18 years)
  • Lev Vygotsky’s – the socio-cultural approach to internal cognitive development
  • Abraham Maslow’s – the hierarchy of needs theory where one category of need has to be met before the next can be fully achieved
  • Carl Rogers’s – theory of the self
  • For ‘later development’, you may want to consider: self-esteem, cognitive capacities, and the ability to form close relationships, and achievement in the work place.
