Public policy statement
Health Equity. In August 2021 AHIMA published a public policy statement entitled, " AHIMA Public Policy Statement: Health Equity." The policy statement identified the need to address the cultural and health disparities that exist through the establishment of public policies. In order to have a positive impact on the quality of health care delivered to all, AHIMA states that the following guidelines must be followed: – Encourage the standardized collection of accurate and complete patient demographic and social determinants of health data. – Guarantee the right for all to have access to affordable, high-quality health coverage. – Promote the leveraging of technology to analyze the quality of care and outcomes using both patient demographics and clinical data to identify and address health disparities. – Promote health care delivery and finance models and quality measures that focus on promotion and prevention strategies to reduce health inequities. – Address human capital and educational needs of the healthcare workforce.
