The debate about Public vs Business Administration

The debate about Public vs Business Administration. . There are both similarities and differences between the two. Some people would suggest that government (public administration) should copy some of the successful tools used by business. The module suggests some of these. Not everyone agrees.

Do you think government should run more like a business? How? Explain. Canada is world famous for its social programs which are commonly called its “social safety net”(see notes). Do you think this safety net should be retained as is, expanded or cut back? Why? What would you cut if you recommend cutting programs? What would you do if you were Minister of Finance facing a large deficit and booming National Debt as is the case in Canada today? Explain.
