Citizens’ Right to bear arms

Given this language, does the government have the right to limit it’s citizens’ right to bear arms? States routinely do not allow convicted felons or the mentally ill to own, possess or carry a firearm. Is this constitutional? Can they limit the type of firearm I possess?
