Rural to urban population

Rural to urban population migration is a trend in many realms. Over half of the world’s population now lives in urban areas, according to the United Nations. In Module 3, we read about Ciudad de México (Mexico City), with a population close to 30 million people (about 25% of the population of Mexico). South America contains 3 megacities: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Buenos Aires. Many of these megacities have large slums and squatter settlements that are stricken by poverty. For this discussion, answer the following prompts: Why do people move to megacities? What are some of the pull and push factors? What kinds of social concerns do you see with a large number of people in a relatively small geographic area?
