Diversity is not just about skin color
Diversity is not just about skin color, it is also about socio-economic status and locality. Some parents, especially those with poor educational backgrounds, do not feel competent enough to deal with teachers, or they have been conditioned to believe that the school or the teacher knows best, and they should stay out of the classroom. Reflect on the following standards: (NAEYC Standards 2a, 2b, 2c). How can you combat this belief and bring parents into the classroom? What are three ideas to bring parents into the classroom? What activities have been successful so far?
