A pillar of the community of Biloxi

Bob’s House o’ Nonprofits [Bob’s] has been a pillar of the community of Biloxi, MS for over 30 years. They have provided homelessness services, including services aimed to prevent families and individuals from being homeless. Their services include:

  • 50 short-term one-bedroom apartments for homeless locals.
  • Food pantry in three locations across the city.
  • Small no-interest loans (up to $1,000).
  • Coalition of local nonprofits to advocate for the homeless population.

Biloxi is a city of 46,212, with approximately 20% of the population living in poverty. This year, in particular, the gulf coast was hit by hurricanes, hurting the already fragile economy of Biloxi. Bob’s has noticed that, while the racial makeup of the city is 71% White, 19% African American, and 5% Asian, they have few African American and Asian clients, with mostly White clients. Bob’s has hired you to do a program evaluation. They would like to know how they can reach the African American and Asian populations as well as explore if the services they have are working. Based on this, please:

  • Create a survey (up to 10 closed-ended questions), which will go out to a larger group.
  • Create a list of 10 open-ended questions for either an interview or focus group (identify which).
  • How would you go about doing this evaluation? Who in the community would you reach out to?
