In Ontario, the Pay Equity Act was first passed in 1987 when the gender pay gap was 36%. The Pay Equity Commission of Ontario is trying to promote gender economic equality by enforcing pay equity rights and obligations through effective case and complaint management; understanding the gender wage gap through research, and promoting awareness to advance economic equality for Ontario’s working women.
