The healthcare facility embarks on a major restructuring
As the Director of HIM, you are tasked with helping your staff as the healthcare facility embarks on a major restructuring. The restructuring is as follows:
Your facility, ACME Regional recently purchased two other facilities; Hospital A and Hospital B. ACME is a 250-bed facility while Hospital A and B are both much smaller at 99 beds each. Both of their HIM Directors will be absorbed under you. One will be a Coding Supervisor of the now enlarged 10 coding staff and the other will oversee the administrative side. This will be a big shake-up of your department as well as theirs. There is so much experience both in your department and in the smaller hospitals and it would negatively impact the Accounts Receivable (due to coding) as well as the Medical Staff (transcription), Legal (ROI), Patients, and every other aspect of the facility if you were to lose staff.
Identify the impact of this organizational change. Explain in detail what steps would you take to minimize the negative effects of the change. Remember it is not a one-step or one-size-fits-all. Determine how you would resolve conflict when similar roles converge.
