The human fascination with death

The human fascination with death has been a long-time curiosity, characterized by mystery and the unknown. It therefore comes to no surprise that when a celebrity passes away, we become more intrigued and our curiosity gets to the best of us. This is because celebrities do not fit our standard norm and we subconsciously associate them as immortal (Sloan, 2022). As a result, individuals and fans worldwide are left to mourn and often leave prayers, candle services, flowers and other acts of services dedicated to their favorite celebrity.

I do believe that popular musicians are able to capitalize from their early or suspicious demise. For example, media outlets blow up after the passing of a celebrity as they use their death for their own personal agenda and views. In turn, as the story becomes more and more publicized and news gets out, fans find comfort through commemorating the individual by buying their merch or listening to their music, therefore increasing their sales. It is important to note that the more suspicious a death is, the more media coverage there is surrounding this individual as people become deeply involved in their case looking for answers.

An example of such an artist is young Punjabi artist Sidhu Moose Wala, who was recently shot and murdered a few days ago. As his death continues to surface the internet and make headlines worldwide, fans continue to show their support by listening to his music and many artists have even paid tribute to him at their sold-out concerts. Although a popular Indian based artist, people from all over the world have come to know who he is and about his tragic death. Another example is Michael Jackson, who is said to have faked his own death in order to create a higher demand for his music, generating him more wealth and fame (Neveling, 2020).
