The hypothesis of sedimentary rocks

Assess the validity of the hypothesis that sedimentary rocks (shale, sandstone, limestone) collectively represent the “weathering crust” on the continents. What additional sources or sinks are needed to adequately describe the redistribution of elements from the continental crust into different kinds of marine sediment?
