The montmorillonite clay

Would you expect a montmorillonite clay contaminated with brine in its pore fluid to have greater or less compressibility than an uncontaminated clay? (Hint: calculate the plasticity index of both soils) Please comment on the reproducibility of the Atterberg results. Can you think of any other way to test and classify the clay or to characterize its behaviour at different water contents?
