The Theorization of security

If, as Robert Cox famously and insightfully argues, “Theory is always for someone and for some purpose,” how does this relate to the theorization of security? How should we approach any theorization of security and any discussion about “national security”?

In light of Robert Cox’s piece, what is the purpose of a theory? What does that tell us about different theorizations of security?

How can one translate Cox’s distinction between theories into Security Studies? What is the point of this distinction? And, what does it tell us about the point of learning many theories?

What do you understand from “criticality”? Is it just being in opposition or something else? And, how is the term “critical” used to emerge different theories?
