The tide of domestic abuse
Domestic violence, sometimes called domestic abuse, is reaching epidemic proportions and affects men, women and children of all races and social and economic levels. In order to stem the tide of domestic abuse we have to not only stop the abuse and protect the victims, we also have to understand what triggers the abuse so that the next generation of families can learn to live abuse-free. The assignments are straightforward and will take only a few minutes. Here’s what I’m asking you to do: 1. Search the internet, ask your colleagues, or call an expert to find out who is working on domestic violence in your judicial district. Make a list of resources and include relevant contact information. 2. Watch Leslie Morgan Steiner’s (Why DV Victims Don’t Leave) https://youtu.be/okxfKfn9zgY 3. Write down answers to the following questions: What surprised you about Leslie’s story? What sounded familiar about Leslie’s story? How did this video change your perspective on victims? If you could ask Leslie one question after watching this video, what would it be?
