You have learned what to include and what not to include when writing an anecdotal record.  Read the record above and go through each sentence to evaluate the objectivity of the writer’s statements.

List any issues with each sentence and explain what is wrong.  If the statement is written correctly, explain why it is right.

[1] Oliver walked over to the easel and picked up a brush with blue paint on it. [2] The teacher said, “Oliver, you need to put a smock on to paint at the easel.”  [3] Oliver nodded and put the paintbrush back into the paint container.

[4] He reached for the smock and put it on.  [5] He tried to tie the smock by couldn’t so he asked his friend Maddie to tie it for him. 

[6] Maddie likes being helpful so she put down her paintbrush and tied Oliver’s smock. [7] Oliver painted long lines all over the paper and said to the teacher, “This is the rain coming down the window.”
