California’s executive branch

California’s executive branch has been described as independently elected. It is described this way because while the top officials in the executive branch (e.g., Secretary of State, Treasurer, Superintendent of Public Instruction) are appointed by the Governor, the state Senate must still confirm them.

Because of this, the Governor will often appoint members to the executive branch who are members of the opposition party. Is this true or false?
