How promotion can create ethical issues

Based on this video, these ads are very much misleading. When it comes to selling or promoting a product, the person should think and say real information about the product. Will it work? Will people buy this? Are the people going to be happy with this purchase? Why would someone want to lie about their product and its results of it? (Easy answer, it’s all about the money.) These ads are far misleading because they are promoting and exaggerating them. They seem to only care about selling it in whatever they can to make a profit from it. Some of those advertisements seem too good to be true. I believe when it comes to advertising any product, it should be tested before going on tv or any platform that is going to be seen by people. According to Lewis (2021), if the advertisement is misleading, this destroys the credibility of the advertiser when the claims fail to prove true. I think misleading ads are the worst because not only would the seller look bad but will have awful ratings and have it much harder for them to get back up and fix their dilemmas. Browsing the internet is probably one of the worst places to get scammed. Phishing is a cyber-attack that uses disguised email as a weapon. The goal is to trick the email recipient into believing that the message is something they want or need — a request from their bank, for instance, or a note from someone in their company — and to click a link or download an attachment (Fruhlinger, 2020). You should always be careful and aware of where you buy from. It may even lead to identity theft. Before I decide to buy something online and it’s not from Amazon/eBay, I always do my extra research from the website I’m looking at. Is it safe? Why aren’t there any reviews? Chapter 4 mentions how promotion can create ethical issues in a variety of ways like false or misleading advertising, Manipulative or deceptive sales promotions, tactics, and publicity, and promoting products to children that might be construed as harmful. I believe there should be a stop to misleading ads because it causes harm, and it is not safe.
