Nutriment’s New Hires

After reading Chapters 7 of your textbook, review the article “Nutriment’s New Hires” at the end of Chapter 7. Next, assume you are Jack Stewart—the HR management consultant in charge of hiring approximately 15 new employees for Nutriment Biotech—and you are preparing to meet with the owners to discuss pay structures. In your initial post, address the following:

A feedback culture in an organization

You get home from a long day at work and take quick look in the mirror. You notice a big piece of spinach (or kale, whatever you prefer) in your teeth. You remember you had a salad for lunch and then spent the entire afternoon in a meeting with three other people. Surely someone (probably all of them) noticed the big green piece of food in your mouth! Yikes, no one told you! Wouldn’t you have liked to have known (received feedback from others)?

According to a career-builder survey of American workers, only two-thirds of employees would tell a peer (someone at the same level or below) that they had spinach in their teeth, and only one-half would tell their boss or someone higher up in the organization! Why don’t people tell someone they have spinach in their teeth (give feedback to others), and why does it matter what role the person has in the company?

Let’s imagine you’ve decided to actually tell someone they have spinach (give feedback). How would you do it?

It’s fairly obvious that giving feedback is useful to people. What ideas would you have help me create a feedback culture in an organization? A culture where giving, and receiving, feedback is openly encourage and welcomed.

 

A welding and machining company

For more than 10 years you have been a human resources manager at a welding and machining company that has remained fairly stable. The business has 20-25 employees, most of whom have been with the company for nearly 25 years. Your firm has built a reputation of quality, and the relationships of your long-time employee team with customers are a key pillar of your client service strategy. You have conducted both an environmental scan of the external environment, as well as a supply and demand forecast. You previously determined that the operating environment is far too challenging to sustain your current employee compliment, and that the skills gap between your current team and the future direction of the company — automation — is very wide. You have presented a change management plan to upskill your team, reduce your workforce, and realign the company through HRM strategy. During the implementation of your plans, your company decided to merge with another firm that specializes in robotics, and advanced manufacturing. On the surface it makes a lot of sense, but your team is nervous about what ‘enhanced efficiency’ and ‘strategic leveraging,’ really mean. You have already drafted a communication to them regarding the merger.

You have been the champion of change, but the complexity that has evolved throughout the evolution of this scenario has your team worried about missing some key elements of planning and delivering on an HRM strategy. You decide to make a planning exercise to ensure that everything is covered.

Make a detailed chart-format document that inventories the work that you have done to-date (throughout your course assignments).

Make a detailed list of all of the other learning-based items that have not been included on your course assignments that you would include in an HR plan for your organization with a one-paragraph rationale on why you would include each one.  Your list will include 5 to 7 examples.

Conclude the written assignment by creating a one page, approximate timeline of how and when you propose to implement the missing pieces of your plan.

Your goal is to write about complex issues in simple, layman’s terms to help readers better understand them.   • Describe how the behaviors of healthcare providers can contribute to these healthcare disparities. Give examples.

Risks of applying behavior theory

What are two risks of applying behavior theory when making informed decisions? For example, if a newly hired candidate will be required to work long hours, will it create a higher risk for absenteeism? What are some other risks involved in applying behavior theory to inform decisions?

 

Injustice, PTSD and Best Practices in managing Workplace Violence

You can research your own case and discuss it on the board or use the ones we discussed in class to provide your thoughts. This is a discussion post and will be your own work. I will expect you to read and comment on one other student’s work. The feedback must be valuable. Using terms of injustice, PTSD and Best Practices in managing Workplace Violence (p.213) what steps as an HR Leader will you take to address the harassment and workplace conflict issues that could occur in your workplace? Using the SAVT abbreviation for increased risks for workplace violence explain what it means and give examples of policies you can implement to protect workers. This topic is very important for HR students to review as it reflects on the importance of our ability to investigate, recruit, discipline, and implement changes in our workplace culture. Comment on what area of HR interests you? Employers will be pressured to take a more active role in maintaining a harassment free work environment. This position will be managed by HR and/or Health and Safety. Some managers struggle with getting involved in workplace conflicts. How would you advise your managers to deal with conflict.

An ethic of love

Scott Rae mentioned “an ethic of love.” There are “3 R’s” (Respect, Relationship, and Responsibility) that comprise this Christian principle. How might you apply these 3-R’s to inform your role in healthcare administration? Consider your interactions with staff and administration, as well as patients, in your response. Understand that “love” is more than just feelings or emotions.  Remember to include citations to our readings.

Turn a sports arena
