Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 have been the center of debate among the government, policymakers, politicians, and healthcare providers over the past decade. For much of the last decade, the government has tried to repeal and replace this healthcare plan. However, ACA still remains immensely popular. The treatment of long-term alcohol addiction

The addiction lab at the  Neuroscience  Institute of  Victoria is working with a small start-up pharmaceutical company to try and formulate a  new drug for the market in the treatment of long-term alcohol addiction.  In the lab, pharmacological studies in vodka-addicted rats have shown that administration of the drug in quite high doses has been successful in reducing alcohol intake.    In vitro, studies suggest that the drug interacts with both the dopamine and  GABA receptors in the brain.
What are the co-iterations that need to be made when making a  drug that needs to cross the blood-brain barrier?

The relationship between exercise and the risk of coronary heart disease

In a study investigating the relationship between exercise and the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) among women, a cohort of healthy women (assuming no CHD at the beginning of the study) aged 35-60 were surveyed to ascertain the frequency of weekly exercise. The women were followed for 10 years. Investigators observed a total of 134 incident cases of CHD, 80 among women that reported exercising once per week, 21 among women that reported exercising twice per week, and the remainder in the group that reported no regular exercise over the study period. Person-years of observations for the exposure groups were as follows:  87,082 p-yrs for twice per week, 198,003 p-yrs for once per week, and 65,329 p-yrs for no exercise.
