Mental barriers between ourselves and our goals

Each of us deals with hardships each day, placing mental barriers between ourselves and our goals. We all strive to push through these thoughts, as some of the Manifest Destiny explorers/adventurers/migrants did (think of the Oregon Trail type of expeditions). Please describe your understanding of mental fortitude and its influence on our daily lives, goals, long-term accomplishments, and more. In what ways do you practice “pushing forward” with your goals? Do you ever encounter obstacles, and if so, how do you respond?

The Effects of an Action Video Game

Compare the use of participants, the measures, tests, and research designs, and the limitations in these three sources: “Effects of Violent Video Games on Aggressive Behavior, Aggressive Cognition, Aggressive effect, Physiological Arousal, and Prosocial Behavior: A Meta-Analytic Review of the Scientific Literature” by Craig Anderson and Brad J. Bushman, “Let the Games Begin: The Relationship between Video Gaming and Entrepreneurial Mindsets” by Kraus et al, and “The Effects of an Action Video Game on Visual and Affective Information Processing” by Bailey and West

Knowledge of ethical problems

Describe key concepts and differentiate between Ethical Distress Type a, Ethical Distress Type B, Ethical Dilemma, and Locus of Authority. Identify evidence of healthcare ethical problems in professional practice or from a personal perspective

  • Critically evaluate case studies related to ethical problems
  • Apply decision-making heuristics to an ethical problem in healthcare.

Use APA style and citations.

Understanding types of ethical problems, along with ethical theory and values is necessary to effectively problem solve ethical cases.  In this assessment, you will demonstrate knowledge of ethical problems and apply that knowledge to identifying examples in your professional experience.

Explain the following types of ethical problems:

  • moral (ethical)distress type A, (ethical)distress type B
  • ethical dilemma
  • locus of authority
    • Give one example of each. consider doing some research using search terms such as a treat, not treat, elderly, ethical treatment, and elderly patient rights.

The process of addictions counseling

Given the large amount of information in this chapter about assessment instruments that may be used in the process of addictions counseling, what do you think is the best way for you to begin to master the information that has been presented and what kind of supervision do you think you will need to become proficient in the use of assessment instruments in the process of addictions counseling?

Augmentation effects in social perception

Explain discounting and augmentation effects in social perception, and how they differ from each other. Then provide your OWN social psychology-relevant example (real or fictitious) of these mental processes in action, and explain how they can shape social perception. Your example cannot be used from the textbook or lecture material.

The importance of communication and confidence

I believe we should be teaching students with the most severe disabilities and/or multiple disabilities the importance of communication and confidence. According to Anthony Fredericks, author of " The complete idiot’s guide to: success as a teacher", students with disabilities often have low self-esteem and should be given clear and concise feedback (Fredericks, 2005).

I’ve noticed that when students with disabilities are placed in classrooms with students that don’t have disabilities that they [disabled students] often compare themselves to the other students and feel as if they’re lagging behind. Because of this reason, I think it’s important for them to be taught in a different class from regular students so that their specific needs can be addressed, and they won’t feel compelled to compare themselves.

However, I also believe students without disabilities should definitely be involved in their own way and taught awareness/empathy so that they know how to interact with students with disabilities. In this situation, I believe inclusion is appropriate from a social perspective, not an educational perspective. By this, I mean that students with disabilities should be in separate classrooms, but I also believe that they should be encouraged to interact socially with students without disabilities in extracurricular activities or out-of-school events. As I mentioned previously, if students with disabilities are placed in different classrooms, they won’t feel as much of a desire to compare themselves to non- disabIed students. They can also receive one-on-one attention and guidance without the rest of the class feeling left out. In extracurricular activities and out-of-school events, socialization should be encouraged that way every student’s communication and social skills can be practiced and improved.

Social psychologists care

Social psychologists care about isolating the processes involved in understanding a phenomenon. That is, they care about having sufficient evidence that X causes Y in their research, and that it does so in the real world as well. Discuss their concerns and how they deal with or solve, these concerns, and why these solutions work

Racial discrimination

Using racial discrimination as the topic, explain how different disciplines might tackle the problem. Specifically, describe the emphasis or approach of a (a) social psychologist; (b) personality psychologist; and (c) sociologist. What theoretical mechanisms might each focus on? (i.e., what does each believe most “causes” discrimination). What would each of these three focus on to reduce or eliminate discrimination?

Biological basis for sexual orientation

Examine sex as a form of motivation. Consider what it means to have a biological determination of sex (X and Y chromosomes; the presence or absence of testosterone) and how that differs from gender identity. Is the human brain masculinized or feminized before birth? What about the biological basis for sexual orientation. Lastly, you will reflect on gender-related cognitive and behavioral differences including stereotypes that males are more aggressive than females and males have better visual-spatial abilities and mathematical ability.

Characteristics of social awareness
