Sex determination

Sex determination is explained based on different philosophies. In humans, sex is determined based on chromosomes, the X and Y chromosomes. However, unlike humans, the determination of the sex of fish does not depend on the chromosomes. There are several factors that could influence sex. Temperature is a common factor. Certain temperature ranges favor females over males sex and vice versa. These factors could influence sex determination, hence it is very flexible. These factors are said to influence the fate of both somatic and germ cells. In this case, if the group of fish has the same or identical genome but is incubated at varying temperatures, they will have different sexes.

4Ps models for marketing planning

This question deals with positioning.

a. The course you are completing uses the 5Cs, STP, and 4Ps models for marketing planning.  Discuss “P” – Positioning:   how do companies consider and undertake this aspect of marketing planning (according to the course readings there are four elements of a positioning statement that you should consider here)? That is, what are the 4 components of positioning statements? (Discuss this in the generality and not specifically for Coca-Cola).

b. Now write a positioning statement for Coca-Cola that would be appropriate for its early years. Assume that you are an advisor to Asa Candler who has just taken ownership of the Coca-Cola Company. Note that the positioning statement is not necessarily the “tagline” (the core customer communication of the positioning statement that often appears just beneath the brand name such as “I’m loving it” for McDonald’s) but rather the strategic intent of the company in respect of positioning.  The positioning statement should employ each of the four elements of the positioning statement considered in class and which you discussed in (a) above.  Explain your answer.

c. Based on the positioning statement you have discussed in (b) above, provide a tagline for the Coca-Cola brand (a tagline is not the same as a positioning statement). Your tagline should derive directly from your positioning statement in (b) above. Do not use current taglines but rather develop one that would be appropriate from your positioning statement described in (b) above.

Management information systems

A printing company created and installed a Management Information System in 1990 to meet the business objectives of a commercial environment that at the time was defined by:

-a single profit center with a unified framework
-100% internal resourcing of supplementary services -central direction from senior managers
-the use of only full-time permanent personnel -customers with vast inventory who were willing to accept long delivery times
-The majority of the work was for established large publishing houses with extensive print runs.
The following results have emerged from a radical transformation in the corporate environment:

-the creation of a divisional-sized framework with four profit centers that share resources.
-Team leaders’ empowerment and delegated decision-making
-a significant amount of work is outsourced

-a large percentage of employees are part-time or on temporary contracts -customers increasingly frequently use JIT systems, which necessitate fast inventory replenishment -the average customer requires specialized low-volume but sophisticated high-value printing
Required:

Recommend making considerable adjustments to management information systems to suit the demands of this new circumstance. Explain why you made the recommendations you did.

Cancer stem cell theory

Cancer stem cell theory suggests that cancer stem cells (CSCs) exist within a tumor. CSCs do not proliferate at a high rate, so are not targeted by conventional chemotherapies which target rapidly proliferating cells, and CSCs can replenish a tumor via asymmetric cell divisions.

True or False

The energy systems

Consider the energy systems an 800m track athlete would use during a race. In a scenario where the runner has completed an adequate warm-up, their aerobic system is heightened and meeting the energy demands they’re putting on their body, prior to beginning the race.

During the first 400m of the race, they feel strong and quick, why? What are the energy systems their body is using? (Hint: there are 3, remember they have completed a warm-up).

As the runner approaches the last 200m of the race, they begin to slow down. Why?

Neuropeptide drugs in culture

You are studying the effects of three new neuropeptide drugs in culture. You find that drug A causes a short-term increase in a K+ current. Drug B causes a short-term increase in a Cl current. Adding drugs A and B together results in a long-term increase in the number of Ca++ channels in addition to the effect that each drug has on its own. Adding drug C results only in a short-term increase in the Na+ current. Assume that each drug affects a different receptor and that no receptor directly binds to more than one drug.

PLEASE DRAW (not just verbally explain) possible signal transduction pathways that could account for the effects of drugs A, B, and C (Note that there are many possible pathways that could work here.)

Challenges facing humanity today

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity today. Describe how resistance to an antimicrobial agent initially arises and then persists in a population. Next, consider how environments harboring a large number of different microbes, like wastewater treatment plants, or the gut microbiome, can be considered hot spots for the spread of antimicrobial resistance. How can antimicrobial resistance be spread to different organisms? Describe the mechanisms involved in the dissemination of antimicrobial resistance in detail.

Pathogenic microbe

A newly discovered pathogenic microbe produces a toxin that blocks the Na+ leak channels. Choose the condition which would be induced by exposure to this type of toxin. 0 Neuron conducts action potentials normally but does not transmit these potentials across synapses. 0 Rapid depolarization at threshold potential does not occur. 0 Rapid depolarisation of the membrane at threshold potential occurs but does not repolarise immediately afterward. O No membrane potential observed (i.e., measures at 0 mV). 0 The neuron becomes hyperpolarised (resting potential decreases below

Business intelligence

Business intelligence is an umbrella term for many types of data analysis. Descriptive analytics can be used to depict current business conditions and provide new insights into the current environment. This type of analysis typically includes a dashboard with a big-picture summary of data and the ability to drill down to ever-increasing levels of detail. Diagnostic analytics can help to answer the question of why certain patterns exist in the descriptive data by seeking statistical correlations of cause and effect. Predictive analytics examines the historical patterns associated with descriptive analysis and the reasons for those patterns from the diagnostic analysis to predict future business activities. Predictive analytics include a combination of big data, business intelligence, and machine learning, which is a form of artificial intelligence. Prescriptive analytics are used to make recommendations based on predictive analysis.

Use the business you chose in week 1 for this assignment. On the discussion board, you provided an example of the use of big data for your business. In this paper, you will describe additional uses. If your business has a low-cost strategy, explain how the various forms of data analytics could help to keep the costs of products and services low. (Note: companies that manufacture their own products will have a different analysis from companies that are resellers.) If your business has a differentiation strategy, explain how data analytics could help your business to continue to provide distinctive products given changing market conditions and evolving tastes. If your business has a focused strategy, explain how data analytics could help to better serve a market niche or a specific customer base. Make sure you consider where you will get the data for your analysis. You should provide examples of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics for your business. Please be specific.

The integrity of a nation

Enhances national security To maintain the integrity of a nation during war, the government necessitates these services among the public. Such practices do not take place in countries with high population growth. With more civilians at hand, the government gets the opportunity to choose physically fit soldiers to keep the country secured from external disturbances. In this way, population growth helps in boosting the nation’s solidarity. Technological innovations High population means a huge number of brains. More demand for every basic necessity in such countries encourages these brains to bring new ideas to fulfill the required needs of a nation.
