The baking process

Atlantic Radiators Inc. manufactures automotive radiators. Demand for its products has resulted in an empty warehouse, and there is an urgent need to increase production to satisfy current customers. John Roberts is an employee of Atlantic Radiators. His job is to spray each radiator core with a dilute solution of hydrochloric acid and to bake the radiators in an oven. The acid acts as a flux on the solder-coated tubes. The baking process solders the radiator together. John’s supervisor has spoken to him several times about the need to speed up and not be the bottleneck in the production process. As a result, John has been taking some shortcuts, including neglecting to wear the proper eye protection. Today, he splashed some of the acid mixtures in his eye and will now be off work for several days. As plant manager, you are responsible for reviewing this incident. Who is at fault here? What can be done to ensure that similar incidents will not occur in the future?

Types of power

Six Types of Power Discussion Topic review the module resources. Then, apply the six types of power as discussed in the module resources to the Netflix case study, which you read about last week.

  1. Coercive Power
  2. Legitimate Power
  3. Reward Power
  4. Referent Power
  5. Expert Power
  6. Multidimensional Power

Consider the types of power that Sharon Slade, the chief human resources officer (CHRO) at Netflix, has in this situation. In your initial post, first, describe the six types of power Sharon possesses. Then, provide examples that show how Sharon may exhibit this type of power during the negotiations. Finally, provide a reason why this type of power is important in this setting. Use the example below as a guide.

Example—Expert power: This is the power that comes from the thought that a person has expert-level knowledge of a topic or high-level skill. For example, Sharon has power in human resource matters, as she has great knowledge of the company’s policies and the law during the negotiations to drive a fair bargain.

Relationship between management and postal workers

Canada Post Corporation is a crowned entity- owned and operated by the federal government of Canada. The Canadian post workers are represented by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW. The case is about the collective agreement between Canada Post Corporation and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, Urban Postal Operations, which expired on January 31, 2018. For a long time, Union could not reach a new agreement, the union began a series of rotating strikes across the country on October 22, 2018. These strikes resulted in Christmas parcel deliveries being delayed by 5-6 months in some cases, worsening of relationship between management and postal workers.

Task 1: Case summary – Your job is to research the case in detail and provide a summary of the case. Make sure you are keeping the reader informed about the backdrop of the case as well as the entire negotiation process. You must discuss what were some of the contract conditions proposed by the Union that the management was not accepting.

The effects of technology

A successful franchise owner of a prestigious sporting goods chain is feeling the effects of technology, with more and more online sales and fewer and fewer customers in the shops. Locally there are three stores, and typically each store needs the following positions staffed for optimum profitability and success:

  • a store manager
  • an assistant manager
  • five department managers
  • and 20 customer service representatives,

Averaging $1 200 000 in annual revenue. However, there has been a trend of 20 percent sales decline in stores, with an increase of 30 percent sales online (last year the online revenue stream was $300 000). The franchise owner was able to handle all of the online sales with a team of five full-time remote workers (working from home) last year.

The owner wants each store to maintain its productivity, which he measures as the revenue per employee. He also thinks that there is potential to grow the online business.

Please help the owner by answering the following questions.

The changing business global environment

COVID-19 became the accelerator for something that we should have done a few years ago. The irony is that the changes had already started to happen, and we were starting to catch up. Pandemic or not, external forces were already accelerating the need to set a clear learning strategy for the business. Refer to a case study in general plus outsourced other information to fully describe the changing business global environment and how it may impact businesses or organizations. Also, suggest and elaborate ways of how businesses can respond to such changing dynamics. Discuss fully how Coca-Cola responded in this case. [50]
