Inequities and unfairness in educational structures

Being in a position of leadership comes with a certain amount of power and responsibility to advocate for inequities and unfairness in educational structures. It may come down to you to stand up for cultures that are underrepresented in your school. Cultural responsiveness moves beyond representation to change a status quo that leaves students behind who are outside of the mean. In this assessment, demonstrate the insight you have gained on how you can impact your school culture to embrace differences in each individual.

Key concepts associated with disability and disability rights

In this week’s materials, we’re exploring key concepts associated with disability and disability rights. Something you may have noticed as we have examined different kinds of diversity in this course is that in all these categories, there is an assumption about which state is “normal.” Last week, we saw that many white people don’t necessarily see themselves as having a race, because white is the “normal” category. Because of this, the experiences of Black, Latinx, Asian, Native American, and other non-white people can be invisible. In a similar way, our culture views non-disabled people as normal and may make the experiences of disabled people invisible. I encourage you to consider this idea as you work through the material this week.

The special education identification process

Students must qualify for special education services under one of the disability categories outlined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. There is a specific process involved in identifying students as having a disability. This process includes a group of educators called a Child Study Team who help determine interventions for students. This process can include RTI, MTSS, and the special education identification process. Special education teachers will be involved in all steps of these processes.

Create a 250-500 word brochure for families of students who may have disabilities. In your brochure, include the following

  • An explanation of RTI, MTSS, and the special education identification process
  • A visual to help families understand the explanation of RTI, MTSS, and the special education identification process
  • An overview of procedural safeguards and parental rights
  • A minimum of three local or national resources to support families who have children with disabilities

Support your findings with a minimum of two scholarly resources.

Advantage of a global economy

Sending talented employees abroad can be a promising way to take advantage of a global economy. But expatriate assignments can be extremely expensive: up to three times a person’s typical annual salary, some statistics show. And despite the investment, many MNCs lack the expertise to optimize the potential benefits, leaving them disappointed with the results. The unfortunate reality is that even MNCs that offer well-crafted relocation packages (including the all-important cultural training) may not have the talent management mechanisms in place to truly leverage the valuable skills expatriate employees acquire during their assignments. Explain this statement.

The Gross Domestic Product

The Gross Domestic Product (GDP)- is how a nation’s wealth is determined. In a given year,  all services produce and goods sold are used to give the total market value of the economy’s performance. When it comes to income the Gross Domestic Product does not take into account that only a low percentage of individuals can actually benefit from the increased economic output, while the majority cannot afford to purchase most goods and services.

The Gross Domestic Product is not the most accurate method to measure the overall economic market due it to not taking in account gray and black markets as well as self-production.  Gross Domestic Product does not also measure the happiness of a nation’s citizens.

Describing what products are actually being produced in a nation’s economy is another shortcoming that the Gross Domestic Product does not keep track of.    Income inequality is another entity that Gross Domestic Product cannot determine.  Another shortcoming of the Gross Domestic Product is the quality of the environment.  An example of bad quality of the environment is the air pollution that is produced by automobiles which will have a negative effect on the life of the nation’s citizens.
