Code of Ethics on social workers
The NASW Code of Ethics stipulates that social workers should take extreme care to not have dual relationships with clients. This can be difficult to achieve in rural areas, small towns, or in marginalized communities. However, research shows that it is often better for those involved in helping professions (law enforcement, first responders, social workers, etc.) to live in the communities that they work in as it enhances community trust and accountability. What are other benefits to this model and what are ways in which this arrangement could be harmful for either the practitioner or the community?
